Genuine Indian Horror
✯✯✯✯ 1/2
I haven't really seen any Indian films in my life so far, but after just watching this little short film, I can say without a doubt that my enthusiasm for their cinema has increased exponentially.
Ahalya is a great horror-mystery short film that manages to expound in 14 minutes a much better story than most films today can do in two hours or more. Its premise is simple and quickly executed, yet its twist is so unexpected and incredible that I can't help but admire it. At one point, I thought I had figured out the film completely, and then it took a total left curve and blew my expectations out of the water.
The cinematography is something I really feel I need to commend in this film. The camerawork is so haunting and mesmerizing that I will definitely be thinking about it for days, yearning to return for future rewatches. The seductive story is capitalized by its masterful camerawork, and the creepy ending was made even better by this stellar feat.
I'm certainly glad that I've had someone point me in the right direction for this country's cinematic achievements. Ahalya is a brilliant short film that has a story tenfold more entrancing than most modern day blockbusters. If you haven't seen this yet, I highly recommend watching it here. It's definitely worth the short amount of time it takes up in your day.
